state championship wrestling & bball

all sports i shot saturday.

crime scene photography class

An enterprise of mine for U-town (university town)
it's a pretty cool forensic science class at Columbia college where the students get hands on experience. yep, that's real blood on the floor. pigs blood. she's measuring a bloody footprint. the detail shot is them lighting a knife to better expose the 'weapon' they're photographing.

In Color

My In Color enterprise -
i wanted to do it on Jeff City and parallel the capital and the bridge. Here's the text that ran...i've omitted the captions because i don't have time to post them.
---
The State Capitol peeks over the Missouri River as cars thunder across the Jefferson City Bridge. Sharp angles blend with curves. The repetition of beams parallel the curve of pillars in the orange glow of sunrise. In morning light these two magnificent structures compliment eachother, displaying the beauty of Missouri’s State Capitol.

adventure to the big tree

ok, not classwork, but i had it available to upload. pics from a night spent at supposedly the biggest tree in missouri, although i just think it's a big tree out on the deserted tail of columbia. but fun. someday i'll properly learn how to use a tripod.

MU vs KSU game

this was my attempt at being esoteric. I was supposed to somehow embody Quin leaving using something in the trophy cases or at the arena. best i could think of, and it didn't run - too abstract.

this is definitely a shot that kyle had to fight to get in the paper. but he really liked it and chose it over some more traditional ones we could have used - not that i had any brilliant traditional photos.

they also ran this one, a pic of the girls scrambling for the ball towards the end of the game.

saving for the web leeches all life out of my photos. b, you got a suggestion for that?

these photos are from a longterm project that I'm doing on the Boone County Fairgrounds.
It was a mule auction/fair thing going on. Lots of cowboys.
I was so tired this morning from a rough week, i almost didn't go. now i'm glad i did...please, comments suggestions?

parkade mentorship program

can't run this photo because the little blurb of a girl in the background - her parents don't want her in the paper.

so they're going to run this one instead

JaVante Commander listens as Sky Jiminez reads to his Parkade Elementary School Class about African American inventors. The class, in Columbia, Mo. on February 9, 2006, is part of Parkade's Black History Month mentorship program, which Jiminez, a counselor who retired in November 2005, started eleven years ago. Though she is retired, she intends to continue with the mentorship program for as long as she can.

classmate portrait

advanced lighting and technique assignment 2 with captions

Anne Breitweiser bubbles with energy. She loves fingernail polish, and most accessories except her braces. “I’m such a visual person and I love color,” she says.
Though Breitwieser is usually full of positive energy, she does not think of herself as naturally outgoing. “I’m an extrovert out of force of survival because of my mom and my brother. I always had to be louder than my brother,” she says.
Breitweiser feels she has a shy, self-conscious side. “My two personalities go with my parents, because my dad is really quiet and reserved. So I definitely have my dad moods and my mom moods.”

Anne Breitwieser swings her blond spikes of hair around; dancing to the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s on a music mix playing from her Ipod.; "I live on music,"; Breitwieser says. “I’d do about anything for good music.”; Breitweiser; whose tastes range from classical to techno rock; attributes her love of music to her dad; who insisted she play the piano and surrounded her with music.; "It’s in my blood,"; Breitweiser says.; Music is in my blood.

single lighting

again, frustrations. in the first pic, a good expression, but average to crappy lighting. in the second, it's the reverse.

for better or worse...

i'll post my pics, and my take from this assignment was definitely the latter.

Last Thursday's assignment - U-town (university town) - go shoot columbia college and come back with something. Suggestions: campus life, the maintenance people.

and so...

Rick's response - what does this say?

Rick's response - ever hear of opening up the aperture to get rid of a distracting background?

Right....

holistic moms and kaleidescopes

I don't know that this was my favorite shot from the take, but it's what's going to run. It's supposed to capture the chaos of the first holistic mom's meeting...

If they have room, this will run as a secondary with the piece.

This is from my job - a publication's shoot. It was a class about how to make kaleidescopes.

These are the beginning of the week. I've got more from today, but I'm too tired to download them right now. more later.
